Residents at Lavender Court marked Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday in wonderfully fitting style, with a creature show that brought a little wildlife right into the home.

During the afternoon, residents had the opportunity to meet and hold a fascinating range of animals, including a bearded dragon, python, tortoise and even a millipede. There was plenty of excitement in the room as curiosity quickly took over. What began with a few cautious reactions soon turned into requests for cuddles, close-up looks and photographs.

The images from the session capture these moments beautifully. Terry is pictured stroking a bearded dragon with a smile, while Ruth holds one as Wyn gently strokes its foot. Lyn is shown smiling at the bearded dragon in her hands, and Cecily shares a lovely moment holding a tortoise and looking closely at its face. There was just as much interest in the python, with Ruth, Wyn, Jess and Ginny all enjoying the chance to stroke or hold it.

The afternoon was full of smiles, laughter and a real sense of shared adventure. Activities like this can be so valuable in a care home setting, encouraging conversation, confidence and connection while giving residents the chance to try something a little different.

It was a beautiful afternoon enjoyed by residents and staff alike — and a very special way for Lavender Court to celebrate one of the world’s best-loved naturalists.
